When I was two, my father walked out on us to “find his happiness.”
He never came back.
I doubt he ever found his happiness since he divorced the next woman he married after only six weeks.
He tried again with another woman, had two children with her, and subsequently divorced her, leaving another family devastated.
I never stood a chance when it came to making him happy, although it would take me years to realize that it wasn’t because of me. He clearly had no idea what it meant to be happy.
Neither did I.
Like father, like daughter. Except I like to think I finally figured out what this happiness thing was all about. It took a while, though, and in my own search for happiness, I realized that the pursuit of happiness was a game that was rigged.
